Dear Members of the Near Eastside Community,
This is an important note. We are high school students and Net Literacy volunteers that have tried our best to assembly as many of the Near Eastside Area resources as possible. During this summer project, we had only 96 hours of work time to collect information by talking with dozens of Near Eastside residents, schedule and interview some of our community’s leaders and members, build a website, and assemble of the information to populate the website with that we possibly could in a very short amount of time.
We are sorry – because we are certain that we have inadvertently excluded important organizations that have been an asset and a resource in the Near Eastside for many years – but this was a first attempt, a first step at consolidating information and placing it on the Internet…and we tried our best.
We, the student volunteers, hope that this gift of a community website that we are providing also shows how students can make a difference through community service and the use of technology. During the last six months, we have donated over 500 computers to Near Eastside community schools – or as much as our grants allowed us to provide to the schools at no cost. We will work hard to continue to add hundreds of additional computers to the Near Eastside schools in the future.
Thank you for understanding that while we’ve tried our best – this website has shortcomings. But we hope that you will find everything from the resources on this page to the pages of historical information useful.
